SPRAWL zero Difficulty Guide

SPRAWL zero’s difficulty select is a small act of mercy. The three names are Unstoppable, Formidable, and Martyr. They map to easy, standard, and hard. The studio said out loud that the labels are there so you are not guilted for picking comfort. Use that permission. A dead FIVE on Martyr because the name sounded metal is not a skill issue, it is a reading issue.

This page tells you which name to pick for the Steam demo and for the September 8 launch. It does not replace combat. It decides how much homework that page has.

Unstoppable (easy)

Pick this if it is your first physics FPS, if you came from cinematic single-player shooters, or if you want to look at the city. You will still throw guns. You will still get flanked. You will get more time to notice the flank.

Unstoppable is the right classroom for abilities. Learn that sprint cancels Bullet-Time here, not on Martyr. Learn Shield catches in Buried without the squad deleting you during the animation.

If you finish both demo levels and feel bored, that is the signal to go up. Boredom is data.

Formidable (standard)

This is the intended pitch: F.E.A.R. squads, grenade flushes, captains that matter. Formidable is where the weapon tier list starts to be true. Grey pipes stop being charming. Junta specials start being mandatory on Amalgams.

Play Formidable for your second Graveyard and first “serious” Buried. If you cannot clear Buried without hiding in a van for a minute at a time, drop to Unstoppable for one more Shield lesson instead of grinding a wall.

Martyr (hard)

Martyr is for people who already throw on empty without thinking and who already hunt captains. Adrenaline mistakes are expensive. Rushdown greed is expensive. Standing in Shield is expensive. Stim crates you walked past become the reason the bridge resets.

Do not start here because you beat Doom on Nightmare in 2016. The disposable-gun loop is a different muscle. Earn it with a Formidable clear.

What we will not pretend to know

MAETH has not published a patch-note table of HP multipliers. We will not invent +20% damage numbers. What you will feel is less time, meaner flanks, and less forgiveness for dry guns. If a future update posts exact values, this page will cite them. Until then, pick by ego and by whether you are still learning binds.

Accessibility flags on Steam (adjustable difficulty, no QTEs) sit next to these names. They are not a fourth difficulty. Use them.

Difficulty and builds

  • Unstoppable: Physics Gremlin and Door Kicker are allowed to be messy.
  • Formidable: Captain Hunter and Return-to-Sender are the honest pair.
  • Martyr: Return-to-Sender with stim discipline. Rushdown only as a closer.

Those names are on builds. If your build requires seeing flanks, also raise FOV on settings.

Changing difficulty mid-demo

If the menu lets you change it between levels, use that after The Graveyard. Graveyard is school. Buried is the exam. A lot of players should be Unstoppable then Formidable, not Martyr then forum post.

The demo walkthrough is written with Formidable in mind and Unstoppable as a valid slower camera. Martyr players will still use the same routes; they just cannot miss the captain.

When the full campaign launches September 8, expect the same three names unless MAETH says otherwise. We will not add a fake New Game Plus modifier here. See updates for changes after launch.

If the game is hard because it will not run, that is system requirements, not Martyr. If it runs and you are still angry, that is a captain. Go to enemies.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for FIVE's first hours in the Sprawl.

What is the easiest SPRAWL zero difficulty?

Unstoppable. Formidable is the middle setting. Martyr is hard. The names were chosen so easy does not sound like an insult.

Which difficulty should I play the demo on?

Unstoppable for the first Graveyard, Formidable for Buried once gloves and throw are automatic. Martyr after a clean Formidable clear.

Does difficulty change the story?

No. It changes how much time squads give you. SILAS and the Junta do not get extra cutscenes on Martyr.

Can I switch difficulty later?

Use the menu between runs if it is offered. Do not suffer a whole Buried on Martyr to protect a label.
