SPRAWL zero Combat Guide
Fight smart, not just fast — captains, flanks, and physics in every street.
Combat in SPRAWL zero is the reason the demo exists. MAETH is quoting F.E.A.R. squads and Halo gunfights more than Quake speedruns. Enemies talk, flank, lay covering fire, and flush you with grenades. You answer with one gun at a time, Gravity Gloves, and three adrenaline augments. If you play it like a modern cover shooter with a bottomless magazine, the city will walk around you.
This page is the fight layer. Bind questions belong on controls. Ability cooldowns belong on abilities. Gun quality belongs on the weapon tier list.
Read the squad, not the crosshair
A street fight is a fireteam, not a row of targets. Identify the captain. Dropping that unit reveals the rest of the squad through walls, which turns a blind push into a hunt. If you cannot find the captain, you are the one being hunted.
Flanking is not flavour text. If you stay glued to the same crate, a second element will appear on your weak side while grenades deny the crate. The correct response is often to leave cover on your terms: Shield the first volley, move, grab a new gun from the body you just made.
Airborne and grounded units mix. A rooftop angle that feels safe against riflemen is bait for something that does not care about your waist-high wall. Check verticality the same way you check corners.
Guns are tools you throw away
Forty-plus weapons sounds like a collection game. It is not. You will use a fraction of them in any given fight because you cannot holster a loadout. Fire until dry, throw, pull. Specials — fire shotguns, chain-lightning guns, Junta anti-Amalgam pieces — are for the room you found them in.
Faction colors matter. IMAGO-DEI guns and Junta guns are readable at a glance. Junta hardware is the right medicine for Amalgams. If you insist on a pretty IMAGO pistol into a hybrid, you are choosing style over TTK. Builds turns that into a habit; in the moment, swap up a color tier whenever the floor offers it.
Pipe guns and other one-round jokes still have a job: they are grenades with a stock. Shoot the round, throw the gun, punch the survivor.
Physics is a weapon
Gravity Gloves pull enemies, barrels, medkits, and spent magazines of other people’s guns. A thrown medkit can injure a target and heal you. Toxic barrels and explosive scenery are not background. Bullet-Time is not only for aiming — it is for lining a thrown object into a cluster you cannot safely peek.
Gravity Shield is the anti-grenade and anti-suppression tool. Catch the volley, return it, then move. Standing still in Shield is how the next flank arrives. Rushdown is the opposite: a near-invulnerable smash for when you have already won the information war and need to close.
Empty-hand punch is for isolated enemies and for making holes. It is a bad idea into a healthy squad because the animation is slow. Use it after Shield has eaten the first magazine, or after Bullet-Time has frozen the room.
Adrenaline economy in a real fight
Stims fill health and adrenaline together. Bullet-Time kills refund stims. That loop is how MAETH wants you to spend the meter. Hoarding adrenaline for a cinematic moment is how you die with a full bar and an empty gun.
Sprint cancels Bullet-Time. Strafe. Walk. Do not panic-sprint out of a slow-motion peek. If you keep wasting the meter, drop to Unstoppable for one run and read the difficulty notes so you know whether the setting is also changing enemy aggression.
Street, interior, and extraction fights
Open streets: lose the first crate, take height, delete the captain, then collapse. Interiors: pre-grab a backup gun off a table before you open the door, because the room will not wait for you to loot mid-reload-that-does-not-exist. Extraction and bridge set pieces: enter with Shield available. Those encounters are designed as volley checks.
If you are lost, scan. The waypoint will not hold your hand through the firefight. For level-specific routes, use the demo walkthrough. For who you are actually shooting, use enemies. For the story reason they are shooting you, story can wait until you are not dead.
Practice the loop in The Graveyard until throw-and-pull is automatic. Buried is the exam.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for FIVE's first hours in the Sprawl.
Why do enemies keep grenading my cover?
Squads are built to flush you. Leave the crate after the first grenade, catch the follow-up with Gravity Shield, and hunt the captain so you can see the rest of the team.
Should I save special weapons?
No. Fire them dry in the room you found them. You cannot holster a backup arsenal, and ammo does not refill from identical pickups.
How do I see enemies through walls?
Eliminate the squad captain. Their death reveals remaining squad members, which is the demo's information tool.
Is SPRAWL zero a movement shooter?
It is grounded compared with the original SPRAWL. Speed comes from gun swapping, Shield returns, and Bullet-Time — not wall-running.
