SPRAWL zero Known Issues: Bugs, Crashes, and Fixes

SPRAWL zero launched September 8, 2026. Like most games, it shipped with a set of launch-week issues identified by the community and acknowledged through official and unofficial channels. This page collects the most widely reported problems and the fixes that the community has confirmed work.

This page is not an official MAETH patch notes page. For official announcements, follow the links to Steam news and the developer Discord.

Performance issues

Steam Deck frame drops

The Steam Deck version runs at 60 FPS in open areas with few enemies but drops noticeably when looking up at the sky, entering heavy combat, or triggering large explosions. CPU and GPU resource contention causes stutters that are most visible during the third level and later chapters.

Workaround: Lower Texture Quality to minimum (Potato Mode) if you need a stable 60 FPS. Locking to 30 FPS on max settings also produces a playable experience with minimal drops.

General PC performance

Players on higher-end hardware have reported occasional stutters during chapter transitions and when entering areas with many physics objects. These are typically isolated to hardware configurations and resolve with driver updates.

Crash fixes

Steam Deck launch crash

Early reports from Steam Deck players mentioned a crash on launch that prevented the game from starting. This was reported in the first 48 hours after launch.

Fix: Verify game files through Steam. If the issue persists, reinstall the game. The crash was linked to a corrupted initial download in a small number of cases.

Specific chapter crashes

Some players reported crashes during chapter transitions in Acrophobia and during the Silas finale. These appear to be related to memory management on lower-spec hardware rather than a universal bug.

Workaround: Closing background applications and reducing in-game settings has resolved the issue for most affected players.

Gameplay issues

Shield reflection inconsistent on some angles

Community reports note that Gravity Shield reflections can feel inconsistent on certain attack angles, particularly with fast-moving projectiles from the Seraph helicopter.

Workaround: Face the incoming fire directly. Reflections work most reliably when the Shield is between you and the source at a perpendicular angle.

Sprint canceling Bullet-Time unexpectedly

This is working as intended but is a frequent cause of player confusion. Sprinting while Bullet-Time is active immediately cancels the slow-motion effect.

Fix: Stop sprinting before activating Bullet-Time. Use strafe movement instead.

Reporting new issues

If you encounter a bug not listed here, the official Steam discussion forums for SPRAWL zero (app 3748520) are monitored by the development team. Bug report threads in the official Discord are also acknowledged by community managers.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for FIVE's first hours in the Sprawl.

Does SPRAWL zero run well on Steam Deck?

It runs but not at stable 60 FPS in heavy combat. Locking to 30 FPS or lowering Texture Quality to Potato Mode are the most reliable workarounds.

Why does Bullet-Time cancel when I sprint?

This is working as intended. Sprinting while Bullet-Time is active immediately cancels the slow-motion effect. Use strafing instead.

Why does Gravity Shield feel inconsistent against Seraph?

Shield reflections work most reliably when facing the incoming fire directly at a perpendicular angle. Fast-moving aerial projectiles can be harder to catch.

How do I fix a crash on launch?

Verify game files through Steam. If that does not work, reinstall the game. The launch crash was linked to corrupted downloads in early cases.
